PQ2019
Porous Borders: Imagination. Transformation. Memory.
— The fourteenth edition of the Prague Quadrennial

The fourteenth edition of the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (PQ2019) took place from 6 to 16 June 2019, and marked the second participation of Lebanon in the PQ. This edition of the Prague Quadrennial was inspired by PQ’s highest prize, the Golden Triga. Three different forces coming together to pull the chariot driven by Nike, the goddess of victory, stand proudly atop the roof of the National Theatre, reminding all that creating performance is an act of collaboration where all talents combine their strengths to achieve much more than any individual could ever accomplish alone. The three horses pulling the chariot symbolize the three stages of human life: youth’s wild instinct and intuition, the experience of adulthood, and the wisdom of age. We used the metaphor of the Golden Triga to explore these points of view, three areas connected with the cyclical phases of the creative process: Imagination, Transformation, Memory.

The international jury for PQ 2019, Kate Bailey (Chairman of the Jury), Dorita Hannah, Tim Foster, Jim Clayburgh, Liu Xinglin, Sofia Pantouvaki, Robert Kaplowitz, Yaron Abulafia, Sodja Lotker, Omar Rajeh and Monica Raya, awarded exhibited installations in a wide range of categories, 28 in total. The Golden Triga went to the Republic of North Macedonia for their project “This Building Truly Talks”. The Best Exhibition in the Exhibition of Countries and Regions went to Catalonia for “Prospective Actions” (Catalonia 2004-2018), to Hungary for “Infinite Dune” and to France for “Microcosm”.

The Quadrennial featured national and student exhibitions from 75 participating countries and regions. During those 11 days, 70,000 individuals visited the area of the Exhibition Grounds, and many more followed the event online. 8,005 professionals, students, and other active participants from 106 countries were accredited for the exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and performances.
