Blue Hour (Video, Projection Mapping, Content, 3D Design)
— 36Qº

Prague Quadrennial’s 36Q˚ (pronounced “threesixty”) presents the artistic and technical side of performance design concerned with creation of active, sensorial and predominantly nontangible environments. Just like a performer, these emotionally charged environments follow a certain dramatic structure, change and evolve in time and invite our visitors to immerse themselves in a new experience.

The experimental, interactive project fills the entire space of the Industrial Palace Sports Arena, and is based on intensive team work that brings together experienced artists with emerging designers to collaboratively create.

Its show is dubbed Blue Hour, and consists of 6 working groups covering areas of lighting design, video and projection design, sound design, tactile environment, creative coding, virtual and augmented reality.

Cynthia-ël Hasbani and John Dave were selected to participate in the Video, Projection Mapping, Content, 3D Design workshop led by Romain Tardy.

36Q˚ Curatorial Statement: Our global society seems to be obsessed with fast paced progress of technology and elevates rational intellectual and scientific pursuits above arts that are intuitive and visceral in their nature. And yet creative minds based in the arts are proving that the boundless imagination paired with new technological advancements often result in original and highly inspiring mind-expanding projects. Even though performance design doesn’t need to use modern technology and is often the most inspiring when it uses simple human interaction, we need to explore and experiment with wide range of possibilities new technologies have to offer. PQ Artistic Director Markéta Fantová established 36Q˚ with those thoughts in mind and with a focus on the young, emerging generation of creatives.

Theme: Transformation
Transformation is the core of the creative process. Process of surpassing individual personality realizing the power of shared awareness and the collective vision of a group. Inspiration through the best collaborative performance design and architecture, where experience and deep understanding play a major role in its successful realization. Focusing on in-depth explorations of the possibilities within the limitations of each task, where the limits determine new styles, engender new forms, and give impulse to new creations.

Curators: Markéta Fantová and Jan K. Rolník

The 36Q˚ project (pronounced “three-sixty”) is a lighting, sound design and media project with professional workshops, focused on emerging designers interested in utilizing technology in artistic creation. It is designed to bring professionals and students to collaborate on the creation of experimental performance design environments that include high-tech equipment and new technologies. 36Q˚ presents performance design as both an artistic and technical medium concerned with the creation of active, sensorial, and predominantly non-tangible environments. These emotionally charged environments, similar to performers, follow a certain dramatic structure, evolve dynamically over time, and invite visitors to immerse themselves in a new experience.
